Creepy Kitch Discussion Time! - Is Less More?

And its mainly discussion time because I STILL haven't had a chance to sit down and watch the two movies I need to review this week (Evil Things and Grace). But the blog looked lonely sitting all quiet like so I figured I'd keep it company.

So here's my question for the masses:
What is more scary to you; lots and lots of graphic gore or something that only suggests lots and lots of graphic gore? Now I'm not asking what is cooler and more entertaining to watch but what is more frightening.

As I've stated WAY too many times on the blog, I am a less is more type of gal. I really like it when a movie lets me imagine the horrible things rather than spoon feeding it to me. I have one Hell of an overactive imagination (which really does explain my acute sense of paranoia) and sometimes all I need is a hint, a word, a slight description, and I am off the deep end. Before I even saw it, the suggestion of what the movie Se7en was about gave me nightmares for days...then the movie gave me nightmares after I watched it simply because you never saw the kill scenes, just the aftermath.
And I will admit, just the poster for Funny Games freaks me the hell out. I haven't seen it yet and I"m not sure I could get through it. But the small blood stains on the white gloves gives me the willies BIG time.
Suggestions of gore always scare me most.

HAVING SAID THAT...
I can also say that certain moments of total gore can really freak me out as well. But it has to be something that I consider pretty realistic or "serious" for it to get to me. Campy over the top clown gore doesn't scare me. Is it cool? Oh Hells yes. But does it scare me? Nah, not really. But scenes that are wither realistic or full of complete object terror for the victim will get to me. For example the eye scene in Zombie II, the barbed wire room in Suspiria (wow, the Italians are fucked up), and ESPECIALLY a scene of the cop falling from the stair well in [REC] are all pretty gory, surprising, and terrifying to me. So gore, in a realistic manner can be pretty scary if portrayed in a specific way.

So, What are your thoughts? I'm always curious as to people's Point of View when it comes to what they find scary. Is less more in your book?

Group Sharing Time! - Halloween Candy...FOR THE GODS!

Creepy Kitch's Halloween Saw Contest Ends Saturday! Hurry And Enter! Details can be found here!

So here's a fun question to the masses around Halloween time.

What would you consider your Halloween Candy holy grail?

Every kid had one. The one piece of candy you would not trade ANYONE for, not even the pope (Well, if you were Catholic that is).

The obvious answer for me is anything full sized...fun sized my ass! Gimme a full sized Hershey bar, dammit! I also had a weak spot for Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Baby Ruths. Having a uterus makes one susceptible to chocolate. I also had and STILL HAVE an addiction to Smarties....seriously...I need to seek help for this. I pop those little sugary bastards like a raver pops x-tasy.

In turn, what was the candy you absolutely HATED to get? The candy you would beg for someone to take but they wouldn't because they know it tasted like popcorn shrimp and ass.

For me, Now and Laters. I bet you money I'll get flack about that too but I cannot stand those plastic tasting filling rippers! And for some reason I always ended up with a ass ton of them (that is an actual measurement. Its equivalent to a cooter quart). They still haunt me to this day. I find little Now and Laters everywhere still. I believe they are trying to end the world and only I know their secret...so they're coming for me first.

Also, Necowafers. Who thought that miniature disks of chalk would make a good candy?...because they don't....at all.

So lay it on me!

Best and worst candy of Halloween!

Paranormal Activity and Stepfather...anyone hear of these?

I am seriously out of the loop. This really shouldn't come to a surprise to me or anyone else for that matter.

I spotted a TV bump about this film, Paranormal Activity and was curious.

Here is the Trailer:

And here is the TV bump I saw the other night:

Now, I'm a huge sucker for both ghost stories and for shakey cam style films. Hell, I even stay up late watching those crappy youtube videos that claim "OMFG! GHOST CAUGHT ON CAMERA!!11! Sooooo Srsly!". Most of the time they're lame but there's something about the quality of these youtube videos that always give me chills...until some little bastard stoner boy in a white sheet pops up. It was only a matter of time before someone took that concept and ran with it. So this looks like it has promise. But the marketing ploy of "demand to see it!" seems a bit gimmicky which sends up warning signals. Regardless, I am intrigued. My hopes are that this will be a film on par with [REC] though I don't think that could be possible (I'm a HUGE fan of [REC]). I'm really itching for a good ghost/haunted house film. I also found out that the movie is indeed playing in my area which makes me even MORE intrigued. The trick is finding someone to drag to see this thing.

And while we're on the note of things Cins has not heard of until now, did you know there was a Stepfather remake opening soon?

Here's the trailer:

I didn't hear of it until I, once again, saw a T.V bump on it. But also I didn't hear about the Children of the Corn Remake on SyFy...and I could barely slug my way through that stellar piece of non excitement.

Stepfather wasn't a huge slasher film to begin with. I doubt it would get the publicity that Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Halloween have gotten with their remakes. But still, this does intrigue me and makes me wonder why it seemed to fly under the radar. Though to be honest it only intrigues me more to rent the original Stepfather and check that one out for no other reason than this remake is a PG-13er.

So...thoughts? Anyone hear of either of these movies?

Discussion Time! Halloween Costume Goodness!

Since we're on a Halloween kick here at Creepy Kitch, I thought I would follow suit and open up a discussion for all.
Yay! Its sharing is caring time!
So, in honor of one of my all time favorite Holiday's fast approaching, I ask you this chilling challenge!
What was your all time favorite Halloween costume you wore?
This can be from when you were a kid to just last year. Seriously, I'm 33 years old and I still dress up for Halloween. And not in the way a typical adult female would either. For me Halloween is not "dress like a whore" day but "AWESOME COSTUME MADNESS!!" day. I really do try to go all out depending on my time and my money that year.
I think I've only missed a couple Halloweens costume wise. And it broke my heart both times to not have a costume. And I assure you I have MANY favorite costumes.
But this one was my all time favorite.

Jurassic Park Employee.
I did this costume back during my senior year in high school. I thought I was OH so clever doing this. Actually I STILL think I was clever doing this. It was 1994, the year Jurassic Park came out and I loved, LOVED that movie. Judge me all you like but I STILL love that movie and consider it one of the best movie theater experiences I have ever had in my life. I also had just recently taken a class on theatrical makeup that included a how to do bruises, bloody scratches, scars, and other fun gore.
So I decided to combine my love for the film and my new found knowledge via costume. I put together a somewhat generic looking "archaeologist" outfit of cut off jeans, tank top, denim over shirt, panama hat and neckerchief. I stenciled in the JP logo on the back of my over shirt along with the title "Velociraptor Containment Team". I even made myself an IN-GEN badge using a school photo, cardboard, and lots of packing tape. Then, using my mom's cosmetics (much to her chagrin I assure you) I managed to give myself a rather convincing black eye, bloody lip, skinned knees, and raptor claw marks across my face and arms. All with the help of Mary Kay! Okay, granted, my mom only owned shimmer eyeshadow at the time so some of my bruises had a sparkly effect but it still looked convincing if I didn't stand in the sun too long!
The best part about this costume was going Trick or Treating with my friend's little sister and brother that night. I managed to convince two other friends of mine that this whole Jurassic Park idea, was a good one. So they followed suit, putting together their own JP costumes. And while we escorted young Anne-Marie and Brendon to get their sweet surgary goodness, the three of us would put on a show for the door people involving, screaming, shaking bushes and a raptor puppet. I figured hey, if they think we're too old for trick or treating, at least this theatrical experience would earn us some candy. And earn candy it did! We came home with quite a horde.
And to date that is my favorite Halloween costume. I've done others since then (Indiana Jones with boobs, Kayako from The Grudge, A fry cook on Venus) but I had the most fun wearing my Jurassic Park worker costume.
...I am so tempted to do it again.

So lay it on me, What's YOUR favorite?

Discussion Time! "People Are Strange..."

I always like trying to open up discussions on the blog here. Honestly, the best stories I hear tend to come from horror fans. Maybe its the ability to see past the norm. Maybe its because we all see the macabre in the mundane....maybe its because we're all sick sons of bitches...
I'm betting on the third.
Regardless, I hear some of the best stories on horror blogs and horror forums. So I decided to open the flood gates today and talk about "Weird People". And I'm sure all of us have had our encounters with them. Now far be it from me to judge what is weird and what is not. I'm hardly the epitome of normalcy here. And I'm pretty tolerant of the strange an unusual. I grew up in the San Fransisco area where the guy with twenty neck piercings was a buddy of mine. But there are those people, those "weird people" who even set my teeth on edge and make me wonder what exactly goes on in their basement. That one person who won't stop staring at you or telling you at great length about their stabbing bunnies in the throat hobby.

So the question to the masses is; what was your encounter with a "weird person"?

I have had several.

As I stated many entries ago, there's a vast difference between what weirdness Stac attracts and what weirdness I attract. While Stac seems to attract supernatural forces such as ghosts, I do not. I'm actually a supernatural black hole of boring. This is because the spirit world thinks I'm dull and annoying I'm sure. So if you do have a haunting issue just invite me in your house a few days. Chances are any spirits you have will leave for more exciting venues after a weekend with me.
In exchange for this gift of supernatural negating, I have become fly paper for freaks. Living, breathing, freaks. I think its a pheromone I let off. And frankly, I rather have the supernatural on my tail because living people tend to scare me more. My freak magnet developed right around puberty much like heroes in novels, movies, and comic books who develop their mutant power. I really believe that this "power" is directly related to breast growth rate. So at one time, I was a sweet young innocent lady. But my freak magnet over the years has turned me into a smart mouthed mistrusting bitch hag....well actually not really ONLY my freak magnet but it would make a good back story for a comic, wouldn't it?
But enough about my scientific theories. On to the freak show!

As an adult I've learned to accept the magnet and live with it. My poker face is impeccable. Ask Stac. She has witnessed the poker face on several occasions. This comes in handy at work. My job is more or less receptionist with many other little tasks involved. I sit at a large desk in a huge lobby and I greet people, answer phones, sell tickets, collect packages, etc. etc. We do have security...which is nowhere near my desk so a girl has to be resourceful (I.E. pepper spray in the top drawer). I work in a up scale area so the majority of the people I deal with are rich folks with LOTS of entitlement issues. But every once in a while I get a gem or two.

Case 1: Cult Lady
Cult Lady was briefly mentioned in my entry about Carrie. She started out normal enough. A small framed woman with frizzy hair and big eyes. She asked for some info and admission prices which I cheerfully told her about. She attempted to convince me to give her free admission because "It was the right thing to do". But I told her not a snowball's chance in Hell in the most diplomatic way possible. She backed off after a while but remained in the lobby staring at me with those big eyes. those big CRAZY eyes. I could feel them boring into my skull as this way too wide smile practically split her face in two. I ignored her for the most part. After about 10 minutes she came up to my desk to let me know that I must have a kind soul and kind souls should be rewarded. I just sort of blinked and responded with the ever eloquent "...kay?" She then proceeded to whip out a DVD from her purse, hands trembling and place it in my own, her crazy eyes all a glow with excitement and glee. And in a low shaking voice she muttered...
"You will watch this. Watch this and it will CHANGE your life! And soon you will be wanting to join me and my friends!"
I was expecting her to cackle manically afterwards but she just turned and skipped on out. I placed the DVD in a drawer afraid it would emit cosmic zombie cult waves at me. And there it stayed for about a week or two. Flash forward. My co worker who takes over on the weekends said that a guest with frizzy hair and crazy eyes came by a couple times looking for me. Apparently Cult Lady dropped by work more than once to talk to me again. And for two weeks I managed to avoid her. But she did finally catch me. All smiles she approached the desk and eagerly asked
"So, did you watch it? Are you ready? Are you ready to come with us?"
I blinked then smiled one of those smiles that don't quite touch the eyes and replied 'I'm sorry, I'm just not interested. But thank you for the offer"...on the inside I was screaming "FUCK OFF CRAZY CULT LADY! OH GOD DON"T TOUCH ME WITH YOUR CREEPY COSMIC WAVES! AHHHH!"
Cult Lady frowned and demanded I give her the DVD back. She had other people to brain wash. Unfortunately one of my co-workers found it and shipped it off to lost and found aka no man's land. I really thought Cult Lady was going to dive over the desk and bite a chunk out of my neck. Instead she just walked off. This happened about a year ago, but I'm waiting for her to come back.

Case 2: Painting Guy
This is a shorter story but one that is weird none the less. Painting Guy has also become a regular occurrence at my place of work popping up right around the beginning of the holidays. He's like the ground hog. Painter Guy is here, winter must be coming. Painter Guy is a huge hulking figure of a man. He walks hunched over and has blond hair fashioned into a bowl cut. I think he has an under bite. I never got THAT good of a look at him. At the beginning of the Holiday season, Painter Guy appears like a homeless homicidal Santa. He walks up and down the block in front of our establishment with a HUGE painting under his arm. And he paces the front of the building for about an hour or two holding this giant painting up. Now this painting looks like something that would come from a prison art therapy session. Its yellow and splattered with red and comprised of screaming faces in agony all rather primitively painted. The painting looks like how one would feel after a car wreck or if you were a mentally disturbed eight year old child. Maybe that's what the painting is about? I don't know. I never asked. He never comes into the building. Occasionally he'll stop at the window by my desk and stare at me for a minute or two, holding the screaming painting of evil in front of him like a warning...or a beacon. I used to ignore him but now I just smile and wave. Because after I acknowledge him, he moves away from the window and goes back to pacing. At one time security went out to him just to ask what he may need. His response was "I'M LEAVING YOU FASCIST MOTHER FUCKERS! BUT I'LL BE BACK!"
Painting Guy is the soul reason I bring a camera to work everyday. I'm really hoping to catch him on film. Unfortunately its like trying to get a photo of Bigfoot or a UFO.

So there are a few encounters of mine. What about you? Please share....I don't want to be the only freak magnet on the interwebs.

Tuuuurkey.

Since today is Thanksgiving I thought I would posit this question:

What do cannibals eat on special occasions? Free range long pig? Veal babies? What?
