Halloween Recap from Chez Spooky

Welcome to Chez Spooky! All I ask is.. YOUR SOUL! And that you use a fucking coaster on my coffee table.

Here's a quickie recap of Halloween from the Washington half of this devilish duo: I went trick or treating. And it was AWESOME!

Here are my pumpkins:

My loosely based on Jill Thompson's art work jack.

Cannibal pumpkin! He has acquired a taste for delicious, pumpkiny flesh! Incidentally that little guy was so damn hard I had to use my Dremel to carve him, seriously.

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!" Cthulu. He took many hours to carve, and my fngers have not yet forgiven me for that one.

A boy witch, a skull faced jazz zombie, and a werewolf, out questing for trouble! Our only appeasement: CANDY!

Unfortunately, you can't see how cool my top hat looked. I got a lot of compliments on it, and Cins got a great "how the fuck do I attach the lining?!" text from me.

Boy, nothing scarier than a digital camera and a mirror, huh? SPOOOOKY. Hey Cins, that ring look familiar?

It was cold and windy, with the leaves skittering down the walk, keeping time with us. The moon was full with whispy clouds, and flickering pumpkins everywhere. We kept an eye peeled for monsters, and saw some GREAT decorations-- my favorite was the ghoul-bedecked house that was covered in corpses, webs, and cheese clothe. The person who opened the door was a tiny old woman, who looked about 80. She LOVED our costumes, and we loved her house: a meeting of minds occurred!

Post pics and share stories of your Halloween!

Okay the cannibal pumpkin is awesome. It is surpassed only by the Cthulhu pumpkin. I bow to your superior pumpkin mutilating skills!

My Halloween was about as event as it always is, which is to say not. I spent it with family having an extremely early Christmas/Thanksgiving/Birthday dinner. Not that the evening wasn't without its horrors as the wine was broken into. Want something scarier than kids (or kids at heart) terrorizing the neighborhood with candy? Try five or so 50+ something adults buzzed if not drunk with plenty of history to talk about.

I exaggerate but it was still a memorable evening. I did manage to score some recesses and leftovers from the candy bowl however!

Nojh: thank you! I love love love carving pumpkins! I actually have one left that needs carving. The original idea was to carve it into a witch's face, using the stem as a nose. But the pumpkin is the same as the little guy that I had to take my Dremel to, so it hasn't been done yet. I'm hoping that because they're so hard I can dry them and keep them as permanent decorations; we'll see how that turns out.

Why don't you guys do Halloween, Nojh, if you don't mind me asking? If you don't want to answer that I totally understand.

Cins: Yup! Matched the purple on my hat. It's now taking a driving tour of the valley in my car. What can I say? Looks good with my fuzzy rearview mirror jack-o-lanterns! :)

Not sure really. Just never became a tradition as a kid. I didn't grow up in a neighborhood so doing the trick or treat thing required effort that my parents tried but never really caught on with me. I remember liking the holiday as a kid but as an adult it doesn't have a lot of power, and definitely not with my family. Does that make sense?

Nojh yeah, perfect sense. My friend Tanya's the same way-- they grew up way rural, so trick-or-treating just never really caught on with her family. Whereas I have gone trick or treating far more often than not in my life! ;)
