Paranormal Activity and Stepfather...anyone hear of these?

I am seriously out of the loop. This really shouldn't come to a surprise to me or anyone else for that matter.

I spotted a TV bump about this film, Paranormal Activity and was curious.

Here is the Trailer:

And here is the TV bump I saw the other night:

Now, I'm a huge sucker for both ghost stories and for shakey cam style films. Hell, I even stay up late watching those crappy youtube videos that claim "OMFG! GHOST CAUGHT ON CAMERA!!11! Sooooo Srsly!". Most of the time they're lame but there's something about the quality of these youtube videos that always give me chills...until some little bastard stoner boy in a white sheet pops up. It was only a matter of time before someone took that concept and ran with it. So this looks like it has promise. But the marketing ploy of "demand to see it!" seems a bit gimmicky which sends up warning signals. Regardless, I am intrigued. My hopes are that this will be a film on par with [REC] though I don't think that could be possible (I'm a HUGE fan of [REC]). I'm really itching for a good ghost/haunted house film. I also found out that the movie is indeed playing in my area which makes me even MORE intrigued. The trick is finding someone to drag to see this thing.

And while we're on the note of things Cins has not heard of until now, did you know there was a Stepfather remake opening soon?

Here's the trailer:

I didn't hear of it until I, once again, saw a T.V bump on it. But also I didn't hear about the Children of the Corn Remake on SyFy...and I could barely slug my way through that stellar piece of non excitement.

Stepfather wasn't a huge slasher film to begin with. I doubt it would get the publicity that Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Halloween have gotten with their remakes. But still, this does intrigue me and makes me wonder why it seemed to fly under the radar. Though to be honest it only intrigues me more to rent the original Stepfather and check that one out for no other reason than this remake is a PG-13er.

So...thoughts? Anyone hear of either of these movies?

I've heard of the Stepfather remake (and I'm not that thrilled since I think the original was just fine, thanks) but I only saw a preview for Paranormal Activity like, two days ago?

But now it seems like you can't turn on the t.v (at least the channels I watch) without seeing at least one preview for it. Now I'm just getting irritated by it.

I only heard of Paranormal Activity because a Facebook friend was ranting about its awesomeness the other night. Apparently it isn't playing here(shocker; I'm in Tennessee) but I'd like to see it. Of course, I'm having trouble even getting to the movies for Zombieland. Blast you, non-18-year-old restrictions! BAH! As far as Stepfather goes, MySpace has been cramming that one down our throats for a while now, to the point where I don't even feel a slight urge to glimpse in the general direction of it. Bleh.

Stac>>I donno if this new guy could really replace the original guy...who's name jsut escaped me (he plays Locke on Lost)I've only seen bits of the original Stepfather but what I saw looked pretty good. The remake looks more like a typical modern teen slasher.
Huh, funny you say that about the ads for PA. I've only saw them about twice now and that's it. You'd think I'd see more since its playing in SD.

Kayla>>*L* that makes TWO of us not having seen Zombieland yet! I have been chomping at the bit to see that movie! I might bite the bullet and spend a bit of my Vegas money this weekend to see it.
So your friend thought PA was decent then?

Ah, no wonder I haven't heard of the Stepfather remake yet. I rarely check MySpace these days. MySpace has that tendancy to shove certain movies down your throat I noticed.

I saw the trailer for Stephfather in the theaters before Pandorum. It looks like it has good production quality but I'm not sure its my cup of horror film. If I had friends to go see the horror movie with, sure, but I don't think I'll go see it alone.

However that is the /first/ time I've seen Paranormal Activity and wow that looks awesome! I so want to see it.

I did some digging on the web and found this: http://www.paranormalactivity-movie.com/

>> Kayla you might want to follow that link. It has a sign up/demand button that if enough people click, maybe the movie will go wide release.

No Name>>Did you see it? I am getting more and more curious about this movie! I wish the hubby was into ghost movies so I can catch it! It strikes me as a film I shouldn't see by myself. Thanks for this link. It gives me a good idea of what the film is about without giving it away.:)
